To use phrasal verbs with the prepositions “up” and “down”

Vocabulary

1. Bring up (v): /brɪŋ ʌp/ Criar
To look after a child until he or she becomes an adult.
Example: Erick brought up his son in Dallas, Texas.

2. Curl up (v): /kɜː(r)l ʌp/ Acurrucarse
To sit in a comfortable position, with your legs bent and your feet up off the floor.
Example: My boss always curls up in the office.

3. Cut down (v): /kʌt daʊn/ Reducir
To reduce an amount of something.
Example: The new president has cut down out monthly payrate.

4. Do up (v): /duː ʌp/ Subirse
To fasten something.
Example: I have to do up my belt when I walk.

5. Dress up (v): /dres ʌp/ Disfrasarse
To put on clothes that make you look like someone else, for fun.
Example: In the last show, our Math teacher dressed up like Peter Pan.

6. Dress down (v): /dres daʊn/ Vestirse casual
To wear clothes that are more informal than the clothes that you usually wear.
Example: Everytime I visit my grandmother, I like to dress down.
