Use of “told"


You need to add the object pronouns (me, you, him, her, it, us, them) after “told”


Told + object pronouns + that (optional)


Examples:

a. He told me that he had a medical exam.
b. He told him that he had to go to the medical center.

Use of “said ”
and “asked”

         
We use “said” in quotations. It is followed by “to” and the “object pronoun”.

Example:

    He said to me, “Do you have a car?”

We use “asked” in reported speech. It is followed by “object pronouns” and “whether” or “if”. It is possible in yes/no questions.

Example:

    He asked me if I had a car.

Yes/No questions (quotation)

He said to me, “Do you have a medical exam?” 
She said to you, “Do you have a medical exam?” 
I said to her, “Does she have a medical exam?”

Reported Speech

He asked me If I had a medical exam. 
She asked you whether you had a medical exam or not. 
asked her if she had a medical exam.
