Examples:

As you can see in the sentences above, we usually use a verb (ing) after prefer, like and the prepositions to and better than.

Examples:

a. I prefer cooking at home to eating out. (cook – eat out)

b. Sonia prefers drinking coffee to eating a cookie. (drink – eat)

c. She likes ordering food better than cooking. (order – cook)
