Compound nouns
A compound noun is a noun made with two or more words. A compound noun can be formed by:

a) Noun + Noun |
= |
head + board = headboard |
|
b) Adjective + Noun |
= |
black + board = blackboard |
A single word:
These nouns are written together.
|
pillow + case |
= |
pillowcase |
|
bed + spread |
= |
bedspread |

Two words:
These nouns are written separated.
|
twin + bed |
= |
twin bed |
|
alarm + clock |
= |
alarm clock |

Hyphenated:
These nouns are written together connected with
the symbol “-” hyphen.

queen + size |
= |
queen-size |
|
king + size |
= |
king-size |

Note: Sometimes the hyphenated type becomes an adjective, so you need a noun.
