THE HARE AND THE TORTOISE (da jer an da tórtes)
One day, the hare and the tortoise decided
to have a race.
(uán

The hare knew that he could run faster than
the tortoise.
(da jer niú dat ji cud ran fáster dan

But the tortoise was more intelligent than
the hare.
(bat da tórtes

“Yes, I race you”, said the clever tortoise.
(“lles, ái

The tortoise had a clever plan.
(da tórtes jad

He found his brothers and sisters and told
them to wait in different places along the path of the race.
(ji fáund jis

So they all hid behind the trees.
(sóu

The race began! The tortoise ran as fast as
possible.
(da réis

But the hare was faster, of course.
(bat da jer uás

“This is an easy race”, thought the hare.
(“dis is an ísi

So the hare decided to have a rest, and he fell asleep at the side of the road. Then, the
hare woke up and
saw the tortoise ahead of him!

Obviously, it was the tortoise’s sister. The hare ran and passed her.
(óviusli,

The hare didn’t notice it was the sister because all tortoises look the same for him.

After, he decided to have another rest.

When he woke up, he ran to the finish line, but another tortoise crossed the line and won
the race!
